If you have been regularly following this blog, you have seen certain legislative bills affecting community associations die. So what legislation has passed?
House Bill 1342 has passed and will be effective on July 1, 2018 after signed by the Governor. The Bill permits owners in pre-CCIOA communities to veto proposed association budgets provided that they obtain enough votes to do so.
Senate Bill 56 has also passed and will be effective on January 1, 2019 once signed by the Governor. The Bill increases the County Court jurisdiction limit from $15,000 to $25,000.
House Bill 1057 has also passed but was modified so that it no longer affects community associations. The original bill would have permitted associations to obtain employment information from judgment creditors (such as delinquent homeowners), but this opportunity is now reserved only for certain governmental agencies that are collecting debt.
Finally, Senate Bill 62 has passed (effective on August 8, 2018). The Bill relates to liability limits contained in snow and ice removal contracts.
