Revisions to HB 18-1126: Regulation of Dogs in Common Interest Communities

The original Bill provided that “An Association may regulate the number of dogs per household and may enforce covenants concerning dog or owner behavior, including nuisance barking, waster disposal, and other matters.”  

However, it has since been amended to only provide that an Association cannot prohibit: “The keeping of certain types of dogs based solely on a breed, weight, or size classification.”  I won’t bore you with the details from the hearing and discussion before the House Committee on Local Government, but the new version of the Bill is certainly less restrictive and, so far, a win for dog owners.
